1 Review on “Camp Branch Campground”
Recently spent the weekend at Camp Branch at Smithville Lake, we camped in a 36 ft 5th wheel and stayed in campsite 170 in the B Loop. Our trip dates were 4/8-4/10/22. While we have stayed there before, this was our first time in this loop and campsite.
It was apparent that they had recently done upgrades to all the sites including ours, with newly pressed gravel and appeared many had been leveled out. Our site had a slight incline that caused us to drag our back bumper on the 5th wheel when we backed in but otherwise once we were in place we were level without blocks.
There is not any shade from trees by campsite 170 however the view of the lake is fantastic. With the paved bike/walking path running directly behind the campsite making it convenient for our kids to ride and play close by. Campsite 170 appears to be a family site to 169 which worked well with having our good friends next us. There was room between our campers to have a fire and hang out. With a picnic table and fire ring with grill. The bathrooms were directly across from us and appeared to be newer, with concrete walls and roof which seemed to be a safe place in case of a storm.
Our experience there was impacted by the high winds coming off the lake constantly the entire trip. This made it hard to enjoy sitting around the fire and being outdoors relaxing at the campsite. We spent a lot of our time inside on this trip, hanging out and playing games with our friends as result. We did do some exploring on the paved trail, some took bike rides and we did find some interesting things in nature including a active bee hive high up in a tree and a young bald eagle that was fun to watch.
I would not suggest campsite 170 for the hotter Summer months as the shade would be really lacking. If it weren’t for the high winds at the time of our trip, I think we would have really enjoyed the view and sitting at the campfire watching all the different water fowl and happenings the lake. So I would suggest this trip for a Spring or Fall time of the year.
