Located in northeast Missouri, Wakonda State Park has been transformed into a recreational site with six lakes, hiking and cycling paths, and a rare sand prairie.

Thousands of waterfowl, including Canada geese, snow gees, mallards, snowy egrets, and great blue herons fly into the lake during migratory seasons to enjoy the clear waters. Anglers may catch bigmouth bass, bluegill, crappie, and catfish in the lakes.

There are two boat ramps in the park. The park office rents non-motorized jonboats and canoes.

During the gravel excavations, gritty sand was gathered and piled in tiny mounds, creating a unique sand prairie with rolling sand ridges that have developed from.

The swimming beach at the north end of Wakonda Lake, which is formed by the excavated sand, measures roughly 20,000 square feet and includes a volleyball net.

There are 79 campsites available for people who want to stay longer. The campsites have both basic and electric options. Wakonda State Park also has 10 recreational trailers for rent. The campground and the trailers are both close to one of the park’s lakes.
