Keep in mind that any lightening products will dry out your hair, make sure to use leave in conditioners and hair masks! I use this about once a week since purchasing it, and after 3-5 uses have gotten tons of compliments on how light my hair has gotten–it’s light brown/dark blonde naturally. I don’t wash my hair prior even though the instructions say to do so as I don’t want to dry out my hair too much. I do not blow dry or style my hair and it is undyed, so I went into this with no damage. This is more gentle than bleach and achieves a golden, sun-kissed look. May become my summer go-to.

I have sensitivity to fragrance but have used Sunbum sunscreen before without problems. Both of these have such a strong smell that my scalp itches when I use them. The lightener did work, but my darker hair is now orange- not blond. I have tried to use the toner in the orange areas but it causes contact Derma on my face- dry itchy skin around my eyes. Very disappointed

It definitely works. My coworkers notice it is lighter even after one use. I have dishwater blonde hair that nowadays is bordering on light brown. This does make my hair brassy but so does any lightener. Even when I have my hair professionally highlighted they have to use toner. I think the purple products help some with the brassiness. I light to sit in the sun by the pool on the summer and this helps accelerate what the sun does naturally.

My natural hair color is very dark blonde almost brown. I typically get my hair partially highlighted every 3 months. I was looking for a product that would keep me out of the salon for an extra couple of months during COVID. I didn’t take a before picture but you can see my natural hair color in the second picture. After 3 uses it’s giving me a nice enough ombré to avoid the salon but doesn’t bring my roots up enough to match my salon blonde.

I used this lightener on a sunny day and my hair turned orange. I then applied the toner repeatedly over the span of a week until I used the entire bottle of toner, and I saw zero difference in color. I will not be using this product again, and I would not recommend it to anyone who does not have hair that is currently color-treated.

OK. They said not to use it on darker hair tones… however, I do not obey products instructions.I had a dark brown hair beginning of summer. I stsarted using these babies and BOOOOOM.mY HAIR HAS A MUCH LIGHTER TONE NOW. ITS AWESOME!And it looks natural. Be careful, the hair will feel damaged after using it. but continue conditioning and using it tht it will change your life

I used this kit last summer and was super satisfied with the results. It does dry out a little so the leave in toner and a leave in conditioner helps with that. Using it again this summer, really love this product! (It smells good too!)

This product “sort of” works. Do Not Use unless you’re at least a “dishwater-blonde.” I am on the cusp of having dark blonde/light brown hair. However, I spend about 2 hours/day in the ocean or chlorinated pool, so my hair gets lightened due to environment. I also get highlights to rid my roots of some grays and (due to chlorine) green hair. This product turned my roots more orange-ish-blonde, but perfectly lightened my regular light sun-streaked hair. Also, the purple “toner” turned some of my blonde hair purplish-blue… but it washes out easily

**I have naturally light brown hair that lightens in the sun and pool**Currently have balyalage that was last done in NovemberThat being said, this product works very well on me. I follow the directions explicitly, and only spray a few parts of my roots to soften the line, and a couple sections here and there around my face to mimic time in the sun.The results are not as drastic or damaging as Sun In, which fried my hair years ago. Also, applying heat from a blow dryer or iron will also help lighten it up.Do not use if you have extremely dark hair, unless you want orange highlights. If you want to test it, apply to some hair that’s easily hidden. Do not use before going in a chlorinated pool…you may get fried hair.

Did a great subtle lightening of my hair with only one application. Not brassy even though I have red undertones naturally. Lightened about 1-2 shades from original. My hair is not frizzy and seems fine. The tone enhancer is great and nice smelling too. I would recommend!

Works great! Since COVID my blonde highlights had grown out leaving my hair pretty blonde on the bottom but much darker (light brown) on top. I bought this and spray it on my roots. Sometimes I put my hair up and spray the bottom/back as well to get the under roots. Top of my hair has lightened a lot and is blending in well now with my blonde ends. I could see it was working after just a couple uses.The purple toner is a nice detangler/conditioner to use in between the Lightening treatments.

This product does not work like it says. This product will not lighten your hair. Doesn’t even really tone your blonde. Makes hair feel gross and very soft, so you can’t do anything with it. Would not recommend it.

To all my dark haired ladies, here is my process. I have dark-brunette, thick hair. Not so dark it looks black, but very much a dark chocolate brown. I read numerous reviews here and never saw a post with photos of the phases that dark hair goes through using this product to get lighter, but wanted to try it out so I decided to take multiple photos from different points. When I first used the product I only applied it after I showered thinking my hair had to be wet. However around the time I was about 25% through the product I started spraying it on dry hair. In my experience either way has worked the same. I followed the instructions and never applied the product more than once between washes. The product itself smells wonderful (as all sunbum products do) and yes it can be drying, however with the following of the directions and by doing a moisturizing hair mask at least once a week I have been able to keep my hair soft and strong. I also made sure to spend time in the sun, either sunbathing, walking, or swimming after application to have that “sun kissed look”. Through this process I went from having dark chocolate brown to now having light brown hair with copper and blonde low lights! However, most have posted that their brown hair turned auburn or even red, and this was no different for me. At about 50% of the product being used I would say that in the right light I looked like I had dark auburn hair with copper and blonde streaks. However, since continuing using the product, the auburn color has faded but some red still remains blended with browns and blondes in my hair strands. I am very happy with my progress. I had no goal besides changing my hair up cheaply during the quarantine (hey we are all bored and need some change, am I right?). So for all of you dark brunettes who are curious about whether or not this product works, it totally does. I will warn you though it is different for everyone of course, but I say give it a try if you want to lighten your hair but aren’t a talented hair dresser (I’ll never take them for granted again!). I’ll be purchasing my next bottle today!

I bought this to use as an “in between” treatment to lighten my base slightly as I only get highlights 1-2x a year. The effects are subtle, and to be honest when I used an entire bottle in the span of 2-3 weeks my hair just looked a bit lighter overall, a little “sunkissed”. My stylist said “wow, you must have spent a lot of time in the sun” – she didn’t even realize I used a product that’s how subtle it is. In other words, this is not an old-school product like SunIn which will give you orange, brassy streaks. I plan on using this every 2 weeks or so and using a purple shampoo after- does the trick.

I Used this on my hair during covid -19 when my roots were bad. I applied it it 2-3 days a week and separated my hair in sections spraying from highlighted section ending to root, gradually working to new growth. I also used a heat protectant prior to blow dry, I have a professional ionizing hair dryer. Product worked well, no damages to my hair. Being outside in sunlight really intensified the lightening!!

I’m an early ’80’s Sun-In Queen with the crazy orange hair look that I thought was super awesome for my 1984 high school graduation picture. Fast forward to my mid-50s: I’m still messing around with my hair color but I use box dye to cover my gray. I’m a natural medium brown but have lately been using medium and dark cool brunette hair dye to counteract the red and gold undertones in my hair. I’ve loved the look until just recently- it seems I’ve over-done it to the point that my hair looks dull/drab brown in NEED of lightening and warmth. I’m using John Frieda Visibly Lighter/Brighter Shampoo, Conditioner and Treatment- and it definitely works- but wanted to roll the dice and see what Sun Bum lightening spray could do for me as well. I applied to dry hair- spraying evenly and combing through- and spent about 5 hours in the sun (I went for a long walk then floated around in the pool). I even re-applied three times to get the most out of my time (yes, it is a very drying product). Afterward I washed my hair and applied a hair mask in the shower, then blew my hair dry and loved the results. Absolutely no orange, just a slightly brighter, lighter brunette color- and my too-cool drab tone is gone. My hair tends to go gold/red because of my natural tone, and I half-way expected that to happen with this product, but it didn’t. I will definitely be using this again on my next “sun day” outside to lighten/brighten even more- I feel totally safe using this and I’m so thankful to the ladies leaving detailed reviews and photos of their results. I did not use the toner product because trying to increase warmth in tone and do not want to counteract the results. I bought this at Walgreens, but may order my next bottle from Amazon if I can get it cheaper. It’s a little pricey for sure, but a little goes a long way; this is probably not good, but I did use about 20% of the entire bottle on the one and only day I used it because I reapplied several times. Yikes, I know.

So I have used other hair lighting products. But this one I have seen the greatest results. I have only used a 1/4 of the bottle in 3 months and my hair is beautiful. Look very natural and it is healthy. I have been using the toner and works just as well.Am a dark brunette and this has lighting my hair to a very light brunette. I have been to a salon to have my hair lighting but it didn’t turn out like this. So for cost and actual results use this and save money.

I had high hopes for this product and was let down. I’m a natural darker blonde at my roots that lightens significantly if I’m out in the sun during the summer. I was hoping that this product would help out my roots while being outside by the pool. After a few uses my husband said my roots are GINGER. HE’S RIGHT. DO. NOT. USE. IF. YOU’RE. A. NATURAL. I used to make homemade hair lighteners with lemon and I even though it is all natural, it had a tendency to dry my hair out and I had to use it relatively quickly otherwise it would smell kind of weird. This stuff however, has a gradual lightening effect, smells great, and doesn’t have a bunch of harsh acids that dry my hair out. I have only been using it occasionally and the times that I have been using it, I have noticed the gradual lightening. It is definitely a bonus that is is cruelty free as well!

I use to get my hair highlighted every 2-3 months because of new growth/greys but this has cut that down. It’s been months and I haven’t gone in. Sun Bum product smell great as well.
